Technology Traits - Corn

Our extensive mulitlevel-testing program evaluates the best genetics, trait and treatment technologies being developed. All in an effort to bring you the most advanced, high-performing seed there is in the world.

Weed Control

Our seed is treated with the latest weed control technology of Roundup Ready®, and Roundup Ready® Corn 2 technology.

Genuity™ SmartStax™ Corn technology provides control of the broadest spectrum of above and below ground insects including, European Corn Borer, Southwestern Corn Borer, Northern Corn Rootworm, Western Corn Rootworm, Corn Earworm, Fall Armyworm, Western Bean Cutworm, and Black Cutworm. Genuity SmartStax is the only trait platform approved in Canada to reduce corn refuge requirements to just 5% of planted acres.

Early Season Insect Control

poncho-250.png

Poncho® insecticide seed treatment protects your corn crop from all major early season corn insects. It is the standard for corn insect control offering much more than just protection against wireworm.

Poncho provides systemic protection for both seeds and seedlings against:

  • Wireworm
  • Corn flea beetle
  • Black cutworm
  • European chafer (white grub)
  • Seed corn maggot

Poncho treated corn produces healthy stands with uniform emergence and excellent vigour; it's ready to grow and yield. Poncho 250 treated seed has yielded an average of more than 6 bushels per acre compared to fungicide-only treated seed across 1,427 replicated plots.

Poncho eliminates the need for growers to apply an insecticide themselves. Application is done in the seed conditioning plant using specialized equipment, ensuring uniform, consistent coverage of each kernel.

Seed treatments can affect plantability. For accurate seed drop with Poncho treated corn seed, use graphite or talc to lubricate either the seed or the planter parts.

As a general rule of thumb:

  • If you're planting with a finger planter, use graphite to lubricate the planting mechanisms
  • If you're using a vacuum planter, use talc to lubricate the seed to help it flow more accurately

For best results, follow the recommendations of your planter manufacturer.

Mid to Late Season Insect Control

YieldGard® Corn Borer technology provides resistance to European Corn Borer.

YieldGard VT TripleTM traits provide the flexibility of the Roundup Ready system combined with European Corn Borer protection and the most consistent protection against corn rootworm. Yield Gard VT triple hybrids have shown a yield advantage of 9.9 bu/ac on corn on corn rotations and a 2.8 bu/ac advantage on rotated ground in comparison to YieldGard Corn Borer/RR stacked hybrids.

Herculex® 1 technology provides Liberty® herbicide tolerance. In addition to in season insect protection against European Corn Borer, Fall Armyworm, Western Cutworm, Earworm and Black Cutworm.

herculex-xtra.png

Herculex Xtra®/Roundup Ready stacked hybrids provide producers the option of herbicide tolerance to both glyphosate (Roundup®) and Liberty herbicides in combination with broad spectrum insect resistance against European Corn Borer, Corn Rootworm, Fall Armyworm, Western Bean Cutworm, Corn Earworm and Black Cutworm.
