Production

Our unique fully integrated production system assures the best possible seed quality available as well as offering savings for our customers.

All of our hybrid seed is produced on the rich fine textured soils of western Chatham Kent. Isolation from other pollen sources as well as field history are key field selection criteria. Fields are planted to both female and male seed parents.

As the female parent tassel emerges we remove it using both wheel pulling machines and hundreds of summer students. Timely detasseling along with good isolation are key to genetic purity. After the pollination is complete we cut out the male parent leaving a pure stand of hybrid seed.

When the seed reaches 30-35 % moisture we harvest the ears of female parent. The ear corn harvester is followed by our unique power sorter which removes any remaining husk and passes the crop over a sorting belt where the seed is hand sorted for purity and quality. The crop is trucked from our fields and placed in our single pass low temperature ear corn dryers. We dry the seed to 10-12% moisture shell it ( remove it from the cob) and put it into bulk storage to await cleaning, sizing, treating and bagging. All seed is carefully conditioned and bagged at our own gentle facility.

Great care is taken to produce the best quality seed for our customers, good seed helps assure a good crop!
